SJMS Osteopathy provides osteopathic services for people and horses in Suffolk and Essex.
Osteopathy is a holistic health care system that focuses mainly on the neuro-musculo-skeletal system using a series of manipulations to optimise structure and function. In doing so, osteopathy can help to relieve the symptoms of a number of conditions including: joint pain, muscle pain, headaches, arthritic pain and sports injuries. In horses and dogs it may be used to help with gait problems, behavioural differences, performance changes, arthritis and muscle pain.
SJMS Osteopathy is run by me, Susannah Jane Money-Schenk. I am a fully qualified osteopath and graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 2009 before going on to complete a post graduate certificate in Animal Osteopathy at the Osteopathic Centre for Animals, qualifying me to work with horses and dogs.
I have also completed Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy as well as gaining qualifications in dry needling and kinesiology taping.
I am a Level 1 and 2 CrossFit instructor as well as a Level 2 fitness instructor and kettle bell trainer. I have qualifications in pre and post natal exercises and enjoy watching new mums return to fitness after helping them through their pregnancy as an osteopath and fitness instructor. Having worked in a CrossFit gym, both treating and coaching, for the last 18 months, I have decided to concentrate on my osteopathy. I enjoy the challenge of making an athlete movement better; to help them achieve their goals but ensuring they are utilising their body in the most efficient way.
I also lecture for RockTape Equine UK, travelling the country delivering seminars on taping for the equine and the equestrian. I use RockTape a great deal with my clients, especially horses.
I have loved horses ever since I can remember and it is a dream to be able to incorporate them in my day to day work. Horses give a completely true reaction to treatment - they don't overthink what has just happened to them, or the fact they are wearing tape. Watching the changes in movement and personality of a horse develop over a treatment is extremely rewarding.
I like to work closely with horse AND rider, educating the rider to understand how they and their horse moves in order to maximise performance.
I have two horses of my own, Molly and Ted, as well as a wonderful husband, James, and two gorgeous doggies Waffle and Maple. I train regularly at both of the CrossFit gyms in Colchester where i am very fortunate to be able to work.
I truly believe that all my clients should get to a point where they do not have to rely on me to make them feel better. My aim is to educate people, teaching them to help themselves to feel better, move better, be better.
